Brevard Music Center is one the best and most prestigious American summer music festivals based in the mountains of western North Carolina, not far from Asheville. The picturesque, 180 acre wooded campus is the perfect backdrop for students dedicated to a summer focused on music, with a faculty list of some of the top educators in the world.
Walking around the compact campus, you will see kids who are passionate about music surrounded by their like-minded peers. Four hundred students enroll each year, most from the U.S. but many from around the world. They will be students vying for top slots at colleges and conservatories in your peer group.
There are two divisions, high school and college. The two divisions have separate curricula and distinct campus life policies. They offer intense study of music performance in the following areas:
Piano
Collaborative Piano
Composition
Voice
Opera
Jazz Institute
Each instrument has its own studio led by top faculty from some of the major college music programs around the country. College students are happy to mentor the high school campers and share their experiences as music performance majors.
Most nights Brevard Music Festival hosts performances. More than eighty in total.Tens of thousands of listeners attend the festival each year.
Students who perform in the high school programs can attend college, faculty and opera performances.
Rustic bunks house the students, who are grouped by gender and age. Unlike Interlochen, Brevard campers do not wear uniforms.
The program runs from June to August annually.
