Why Hampshire College Dumped the SAT/ACT, and Why That Might Interest You (Article)

washpost-article-hampshire-college-2015An interesting article from the Washington Post about why Hampshire College dumped the SAT/ACT. No, not “optional.”  They dumped it, dropping themselves off of US News & World Report’s college ranking system in the process, and THEY DON’T CARE, because they’re happier with the students that they’re seeing apply.

Hampshire is an excellent school started by Amherst and UMass Amherst to foster outside the box thinking in a world moving faster than the stodgy pace of traditional education. An excellent open letter! A few of their grads are set up in start-up projects based on their thesis proposal turning out ideas that can make money. Several, including Stonyfield dairy products, were major businesses hatched at Hampshire. One of my sons went to Hampshire. Amazing place if you’re one of the “outside of the box” students. Ask me about it in the halls or at College Fair. Thanks to Tricia Hallison-mischler for finding this article and sharing!
